MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Panigale V4

Introduced for the 2018 model year, this was Ducati’s first production motorcycle to use a four-cylinder engine, bringing MotoGP-derived Desmosedici Stradale technology into the brand’s superbike range. It marked a major turning point for the Panigale family, replacing Ducati’s long-running twin-cylinder superbike formula with a new V4 platform aimed at higher-level track performance and a broader spread of usable performance. Ducati described the bike as the start of a new era for its supersport line, and initial deliveries began in late 2017, with the model reaching markets in 2018. Over time, the nameplate has evolved through regular model-year updates rather than disappearing and returning, keeping it as Ducati’s core liter-class superbike offering. The model has also served as the basis for more specialized derivatives and limited-edition versions, reinforcing its role as the centerpiece of Ducati’s modern superbike program and one of the most important road-going motorcycles in the company’s contemporary history.
