Ducati introduced the 1299 Panigale for the 2015 model year as the latest and most developed version of its twin-cylinder superbike line. It represented the final major evolution of the Panigale era before Ducati moved to the V4 generation, and it became the basis for the brand’s most extreme lightweight special of the period. In 2017, Ducati followed with the 1299 Superleggera, a 500-unit limited edition derived from the 1299 Panigale and conceived as a halo machine rather than a mass-production model. The Superleggera pushed the concept of the platform even further with extensive use of carbon fiber and other exotic materials, making it one of the most ambitious and collectible Ducati superbikes of its time. Together, the 1299 Panigale and its Superleggera offshoot marked the culmination of Ducati’s twin-cylinder superbike development before the Panigale V4 took over as the company’s flagship superbike family.
