Introduced for the 1988 model year, this compact front-wheel-drive coupe was Chevrolet’s two-door companion to the Corsica and part of GM’s L-body family. It arrived as a stylish replacement for the earlier Citation-era coupe space in Chevrolet’s lineup, aiming to blend everyday practicality with a more youthful, sporty image. Over the course of its single production run, the car went through incremental styling and trim updates rather than a full redesign, which helped it stay current through the late 1980s and early 1990s without losing its original character. Enthusiast interest was encouraged by performance-oriented variants such as GT, GTU, GTZ and later Z26, which gave the nameplate a more expressive personality than many other compact cars of the period. The model remained on sale through the 1996 model year, after which Chevrolet ended production and the nameplate did not return in a later revival.
