MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Orlando

This nameplate first appeared as a global compact family vehicle introduced for the 2011 model year, with early sales concentrated outside the United States. The original version followed a practical tall-wagon/MPV formula and was positioned as an affordable people mover rather than a mainstream North American crossover. It reached markets such as South Korea, Canada and parts of Europe, and its first production run ended in 2018 when the Korean-built version was discontinued as GM restructured its operations there.

The nameplate later returned in a very different form for China in 2018. That second-generation model was developed specifically for the Chinese market and shifted closer to a crossover-style design, reflecting changing local tastes. Unlike the first version, this revival was not simply a continuation of the earlier MPV; it represented a separate production period under the same name, with different market focus and a new body concept. Because the badge was revived after the original run had ended, the history of this model is best understood as two distinct eras rather than one uninterrupted lifecycle.
