Aprilia’s Scarabeo 500 was introduced in 2003 as the largest and most touring-focused member of the Scarabeo scooter family. The Scarabeo name had already been established by Aprilia in the 1990s as a distinctive high-wheel scooter line, and the 500 extended that concept into a more long-distance, premium role. Rather than being a small urban runabout, the 500 was positioned as the flagship of the range, aimed at riders who wanted the easy step-through format and stable high-wheel layout, but with a more substantial presence and broader touring capability.
The model arrived during a period when Aprilia was expanding the Scarabeo family upward in displacement, and it became the range’s top-end expression for several years. In later model years it was offered alongside smaller Scarabeo variants, but the 500 remained the most road-oriented and upscale version of the nameplate. By the early 2010s it was still listed in Aprilia’s range, but the nameplate disappeared when Scarabeo was revised around 2014 and the lineup was refocused on smaller-displacement models. That makes the Scarabeo 500 a single, continuous production-era scooter: a mid-2000s to early-2010s Aprilia flagship that represents the brand’s more elegant, practical side rather than its racing image.
