Aprilia introduced the ETV 1000 Caponord in the 2001 model year as its large-displacement adventure-touring entry, aimed at riders who wanted long-distance comfort and real-road capability in a more road-focused package than a pure dual-sport. It was one of Aprilia’s early big-bore four-stroke models of the modern era and used the company’s familiar Rotax-derived V-twin architecture, giving the bike a strong link to Aprilia’s sport-oriented performance platform while packaging it for travel and everyday usability.
The Caponord stood out for combining upright ergonomics, wind protection, luggage-friendly touring intent, and a chassis tuned for paved-road confidence with occasional unpaved detours. That formula made it distinctive at a time when the adventure category was still far less crowded than it is today. Aprilia kept the model in production through the 2007 model year, with factory parts and accessory references covering the 2001–2007 run, which confirms a single continuous production period.
Within Aprilia’s lineup, the ETV 1000 Caponord is remembered as a capable, characterful big trail-tourer and an important early example of the brand’s move beyond pure sportbikes and scooters into the adventure segment. It helped establish the Caponord name as Aprilia’s label for long-distance adventure motorcycles.
