Aprilia’s RSV4 R was the more accessible roadgoing version of the RSV4 superbike family, introduced for the 2013 model year as part of the Italian brand’s World Superbike-derived lineup. Aprilia presented the updated RSV4 range in late 2012, with the RSV4 R ABS positioned as the entry point to the superbike line and sharing the core racing DNA, chassis concept, and electronic know-how developed through Aprilia’s competition program. For 2013 and 2014, the RSV4 R ABS sat below the more premium Factory variant and was marketed as a street-focused machine with race-bred technology rather than a separate platform or a trim of another model.
The RSV4 nameplate itself was already central to Aprilia’s modern superbike identity, but the R designation marked the more attainable road version during this middle period of the family’s evolution. Aprilia refreshed the RSV4 for 2014, keeping the R ABS in the range and continuing to emphasize its connection to the brand’s Superbike success and its advanced rider-electronics package. After that, Aprilia reorganized the lineup for 2015, replacing the R/Factory naming structure with the RSV4 RR and RSV4 RF. That makes the RSV4 R a single continuous production-era nameplate within the RSV4 family, best understood as the 2013–2014 entry-level RSV4 superbike from Aprilia.
