The Mille SP was Aprilia’s limited-production, track-focused homologation special from the original RSV Mille family. It appeared as a more exclusive, more race-oriented sibling to the standard RSV Mille and the Mille R, built in very small numbers to support Aprilia’s entry into World Superbike-era competition and to give the street bike lineup a true halo model. The SP name signaled a more specialized specification than the regular production Mille, and the model quickly earned a reputation as one of the most desirable first-generation Aprilia superbikes.
The Mille SP belongs to the first RSV Mille generation introduced at the end of the 1990s, when Aprilia moved from being best known for smaller-displacement sport and race machines into the open-class superbike category. It is generally identified as a 2000 model year machine, with production widely described as capped at 150 examples. That tiny run, combined with its homologation-special purpose and close connection to Aprilia’s early superbike ambitions, made the Mille SP a collector’s item almost from the start.
Because it was a one-off limited model rather than a long-running trim line, the Mille SP did not continue into later RSV Mille updates. It remains historically important as the most exclusive early RSV Mille variant and as an early statement of Aprilia’s intent in liter-bike racing and road-bike performance.
