MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the YZF600W

This 600cc race-base supersport was introduced for the 2021 model year as a circuit-focused version of Yamaha’s European-spec 2020 R6. It was created for riders and teams who wanted a competition-oriented platform rather than a street-oriented middleweight, and it carried forward the R6’s reputation for sharp chassis behavior and high-revving inline-four character. Yamaha’s official model-year manuals and release materials show the nameplate continuing through successive annual model years, including 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 and an announced 2027 model. In 2026, Yamaha stated that the final production run would be sold by limited order, with production ending after that order cycle. Because the model is still being offered in the current run, there is no final last year to record yet. The nameplate is best understood as the later, track-only continuation of the R6 lineage after the street-going version was phased out, and it has become a familiar choice in club racing and supersport paddocks.
