Yamaha positioned it as the top of its sports snowmobile range, emphasizing sharp acceleration and stable top-end performance rather than utility use. Over the following years, the model remained part of Yamaha’s high-performance sled lineup and received incremental updates aimed at improving reliability and refinement, including changes noted for the 2002 model year. The nameplate’s run ended after the 2002 model year, as Yamaha moved toward its newer 4-stroke snowmobile era beginning with the RX-1 family.
