The Story of the Rocket 3 GT

This nameplate arrived as part of Triumph’s completely redesigned Rocket 3 family in 2019, reviving the Rocket concept with an all-new, larger-capacity triple and a modern chassis rather than continuing the earlier Rocket III in unchanged form. The GT version was positioned as the more relaxed, long-distance-focused sibling in the lineup, with a laid-back riding position and touring-friendly ergonomics that complemented the bike’s heavy muscle-roadster character. Triumph’s own model-year information identifies the Rocket 3 R and GT as MY19 and later, confirming the GT’s introduction with the new generation. The model drew on the Rocket’s long heritage as Triumph’s flagship torque-heavy platform, but the 2019 redesign marked a clean break in engineering and presentation, with a much more contemporary look, upgraded technology and a stronger emphasis on refinement and road presence. The GT badge signaled a cruiser-leaning take on the Rocket formula, aimed at riders who wanted the drama of the big triple with a more comfortable, road-trip-ready setup. It has remained in production since that relaunch, and Triumph later expanded the range with the Rocket 3 Storm update while retaining the GT nameplate.
