This nameplate was Suzuki’s faired version of its middleweight Bandit 600, introduced for the 1996 model year in export markets as a practical, value-oriented standard/sport motorcycle. It joined the Bandit family after the original naked 600 had already established the formula: a user-friendly inline-four powered street bike with everyday usability, modest running costs, and enough performance to appeal to both commuters and enthusiasts.
The 600S was aimed at riders who wanted the Bandit’s mechanical simplicity and broad-riding character but preferred the added wind protection of a half fairing. That made it a popular “all-rounder” rather than a pure sport machine, and it helped define Suzuki’s mid-size street-bike identity through the late 1990s. The model received updates over its life, including a styling and detail refresh for the 2000 model year, but it remained recognizably part of the same Bandit 600 generation throughout production.
The 600S was part of the first continuous run of the Bandit 600 line and was discontinued after the 2004 model year, when Suzuki moved on to the Bandit 650 family. It is remembered as one of the classic budget-friendly middleweight Suzukis of its era: straightforward, versatile, and well suited to riders who wanted an approachable everyday motorcycle with a sporty image and real-world comfort.
