The nameplate is significant because it connects McLaren’s modern road-car era directly to its Formula 1 heritage. McLaren has described it as the only Ultimate Series road car named after an F1 driver, which gives the model a special place in the brand’s history and among enthusiasts. Production was strictly limited and all examples were allocated before or as production began, making it one of the marque’s most exclusive modern road cars.
For WhipPotion’s model-year purposes, the nameplate first appeared for the 2018 model year. McLaren’s corporate materials show the car as released in 2017 and still part of 2019 deliveries, with the balance of orders being completed in that period. That supports a single continuous production run ending in 2019. The model did not disappear and return later, so it does not have multiple production periods. Its legacy also led to the track-only Senna GTR, but that was a separate derivative rather than a revival of the road car nameplate.
