MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the GTS

This nameplate was introduced as McLaren’s updated grand touring supercar, positioned as the successor to the earlier GT. McLaren first revealed the model in December 2023 and said deliveries would begin in mid-2024, with official retail listings showing it as a 2025 model year vehicle. It was created to preserve the everyday usability that defined the GT while moving the concept further toward a more focused supercar character.

The car occupies a distinctive place in McLaren’s range. Rather than chasing the most extreme track-day brief, it blends long-distance comfort, a practical rear hatch layout, and a driver-focused carbon-fibre structure with the sharper character expected of the brand. McLaren described it as more powerful, lighter, and faster than the GT, while also noting an updated exterior and a higher level of standard equipment. In that sense, it serves as a bridge between the brand’s practical road car and its more overtly performance-oriented supercars.

Historically, this model matters because it effectively redefined McLaren’s GT-badged grand tourer rather than launching an entirely separate concept. It kept the original formula of a usable, refined McLaren for everyday roads, but refreshed the design and positioning so the car feels more consistent with the rest of the modern lineup. For enthusiasts, it represents McLaren’s effort to make a true grand tourer that still feels like a McLaren in chassis character and road presence, without drifting into the softer luxury-car territory that some rivals occupy.
