MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the 570GT

This nameplate was introduced as the more road-oriented, grand-touring member of McLaren’s Sports Series. It was unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show and entered the line as a 2017 model year car, adding a more comfort-focused body style to the 570 family rather than replacing the existing coupe. The model was aimed at buyers who wanted typical McLaren mid-engine performance with greater everyday usability, including more luggage space and a more relaxed long-distance character.

The car used the same basic Sports Series architecture as its siblings, but its defining difference was a reworked rear body section with a glass hatch and a layout intended to improve practicality and visibility. That positioned it as the least track-focused of the early 570 variants and the one most explicitly tuned for road use. In McLaren’s range, it filled the role of a refined, usable alternative to the more driver-centric coupe, and it became a notable part of the brand’s Sports Series era.

McLaren later indicated that the Sports Series ran from 2011 through 2020, which places the end of this nameplate’s production in the 2020 model year. The result is a single, continuous production run with no revival.
