Spectra

This Kia nameplate was introduced to U.S. buyers for the 2004 model year as Kia’s new compact sedan, replacing the earlier Sephia-era compact car in the lineup. It was part of the company’s early-2000s push to move beyond basic transportation and into the mainstream compact segment with more space, safety equipment, and a stronger design identity. A five-door version, the Spectra5, joined the range as a sportier hatchback companion to the sedan, helping broaden the model’s appeal to buyers who wanted practicality without stepping up to a larger car. For 2004, Kia presented the car as an all-new generation, and the line quickly became one of the brand’s better-known passenger cars in North America. The model stayed in Kia’s U.S. lineup through the 2009 model year, after which it was replaced by the Forte.
