The original Z500 was a compact, sporty standard built around the era’s across-the-frame four-cylinder formula, positioned as a smaller sibling to Kawasaki’s larger Z models. After its early production run, the nameplate disappeared for many years.
Kawasaki revived the Z500 for the 2024 model year as an all-new supernaked, unveiled alongside the Ninja 500 and developed on a modern lightweight 500-class platform. The new Z500 is not a continuation of the original machine in a technical sense; it is a fresh interpretation of the nameplate that updates the Z family’s styling and streetfighter character for contemporary riders. Its return also reflects Kawasaki’s broader strategy of using the Z badge across multiple displacement classes, from entry-level bikes to larger performance-oriented models.
