This nameplate was introduced in Indonesia in 2017 as Kawasaki expanded its retro-inspired W family with a smaller, more accessible single-cylinder model. It was positioned as an authentic-retro motorcycle with a simple, traditional look that echoed the long-running character of Kawasaki’s larger W models, while targeting riders who wanted classic styling in an entry-level package. The launch quickly established it as a notable new addition to Kawasaki’s lineup in Southeast Asia, where it filled a gap between small commuter bikes and bigger retro roadsters.
In Indonesia, the model remained in active production and continued to evolve through regular year-model updates and variant expansion. Kawasaki later broadened the range with derivatives such as SE, Café and TR versions, giving the nameplate different stylistic personalities while keeping the same core retro concept. Those updates were mainly focused on presentation and positioning rather than a wholesale change in identity, reinforcing the model’s role as a modern interpretation of a straightforward classic motorcycle.
The nameplate later reached additional markets as well. In India, Kawasaki launched an all-new W175 for model year 2023, presenting it as a retro model developed for that market and tying it to the broader W heritage. Across its various market applications, the bike has been used to carry Kawasaki’s classic styling language into a smaller-displacement, more approachable format, making it one of the most accessible members of the W lineage.
