MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the KLE500

Kawasaki’s middleweight adventure-oriented twin first appeared in 1991, bringing a road-biased dual-sport formula to riders who wanted a versatile machine with real-world touring ability and light off-road credibility. The original model used Kawasaki’s familiar parallel-twin platform from the company’s 500-class street bikes, and over its first production era it became known as a durable, approachable all-rounder rather than a pure dirt machine. Its long run established it as one of Kawasaki’s earlier attempts at combining everyday usability with adventure styling, years before the segment became mainstream. The nameplate later disappeared from the lineup, but it was revived for 2026 as a modern adventure motorcycle, marking a clear second production period after a substantial gap. The contemporary version updates the concept with current hardware and rally-inspired design while retaining the original idea of a practical, multi-purpose Kawasaki twin.
