This Kawasaki 250cc enduro nameplate first appeared in 1980 as a lightweight off-road machine aimed at trail and desert riding, originally sold in the U.S. market. The early version used an air-cooled two-stroke layout and reflected the simpler enduro design of that era. Production then ended after the mid-1980s, and Kawasaki later revived the nameplate for the 1991 model year with a thoroughly updated package for the modern two-stroke enduro class. The revived version brought liquid cooling, disc brakes and more contemporary suspension, and it remained on sale through the mid-1990s. Because the nameplate was used in two separate production eras with a gap in between, it is best understood as an early 1980s trail machine followed by a much newer 1990s revival rather than one continuous run.
