The QX60 arrived for the 2014 model year as INFINITI’s three-row luxury crossover, created when the brand renamed and repositioned the earlier JX35 under its QX naming structure. From the start, it was aimed at families who wanted a premium SUV with seating for seven, a refined ride and a focus on comfort rather than outright sportiness. That original version established the model’s core identity: a spacious, road-trip-friendly luxury crossover with a more elegant and practical mission than many of its rivals.
For several years, the QX60 remained closely tied to the first-generation JX35 architecture, evolving through equipment and detail changes while keeping the same basic formula. A hybrid variant was also offered in the early years, helping give the nameplate a broader appeal within INFINITI’s SUV lineup.
A major turning point came with the redesigned 2022 model year QX60, which marked a full generational change. INFINITI gave the vehicle a much more modern exterior and interior, upgraded its technology, and sharpened its premium positioning while preserving the three-row, family-oriented character that defined the original. The redesign also helped separate the QX60 more clearly from its earlier JX35 roots and established it as one of the brand’s central utility models.
Today, the QX60 continues as INFINITI’s mainstream three-row SUV, positioned between the smaller QX50 and the larger QX80. Its history is notable less for dramatic reinvention than for consistent refinement: it has steadily developed from a renamed family crossover into a core luxury utility model with broad market appeal.
