The M56 was Infiniti’s V8-powered version of its M-series luxury sedan, introduced for the 2011 model year as part of the brand’s updated midsize rear-wheel-drive flagship sedan lineup. It sat above the V6-powered M37 and was aimed at buyers who wanted a more performance-oriented interpretation of Infiniti’s executive sedan formula, with an emphasis on smooth power, long-distance comfort, and available all-wheel drive in some markets. The model continued through the 2013 model year. For 2014, Infiniti renamed the M line to Q70, carrying the same basic sedan family forward under the new naming strategy. As a result, the M56’s history is a single continuous production run rather than a revived nameplate.
