MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Valkyrie Interstate

This nameplate was introduced as a touring-focused derivative of Honda’s original Valkyrie family for the 1999 model year, pairing the Valkyrie’s flat-six powertrain and long-wheelbase cruiser stance with a more distance-oriented setup. Honda positioned it as the Interstate version of the Valkyrie, adding factory touring equipment such as a large fairing, hard luggage, and a top trunk/backrest arrangement to make the bike more suitable for highway travel and two-up touring. It was built in the United States at Honda of America Manufacturing and was part of Honda’s American-style heavyweight motorcycle line.

The model’s production run was short and straightforward, with model-year coverage confirmed through 1999, 2000, and 2001. Honda’s own materials describe the 2001 version as a revised Valkyrie model rather than a new generation, indicating that the Interstate remained an evolution of the original late-1990s touring concept rather than a separate redesign. After the 2001 model year, the nameplate disappeared from Honda’s lineup and was not continued into a second era. For enthusiasts, it is remembered as the most touring-oriented version of the original Valkyrie, offering a blend of custom-bike presence and full-dress road-trip practicality.
