MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the TRX90 (SportTrax 90)

Honda’s small sport ATV for young riders arrived for the 1994 model year as a youth-focused four-wheeler in the brand’s expanding TRX family. It was positioned as an approachable introduction to off-road riding, with a size and riding character aimed at beginners rather than full-size sport-ATV buyers. In some markets and literature it was also associated with the SportTrax 90 name, but the machine is best known by its TRX90 designation.

The nameplate had a long, straightforward run through the mid-2000s, helping define the youth-sport ATV segment for Honda. Its appeal came from its easy-to-manage chassis, friendly power delivery, and the familiar Honda emphasis on durability and simplicity. For many families, it became a starter ATV that could be handed down or outgrown rather than quickly replaced, which helped it earn a loyal following among riders and parents alike.

For 2006, Honda still listed the TRX90 in its ATV lineup, but the model was approaching a transition in identity. After that era, Honda moved the youth sport machine forward under newer TRX90EX and later TRX90X naming. As a result, the original TRX90 era is generally understood as the 1994-2006 production run before the nameplate evolved into its later successor branding.
