MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the TRX700XX

This sport ATV was introduced for the 2008 model year as a high-performance, off-road-only machine aimed at experienced riders. It stood apart from Honda’s longer-running sport quads by using a large-displacement liquid-cooled single with fuel injection, independent rear suspension, and a centered chain-drive layout, giving it a distinct technical identity in Honda’s late-2000s ATV lineup. The design focused on a mix of outright speed and trail comfort rather than pure race homologation, which made it unusual in a segment that often leaned toward rigid, race-bred simplicity.

Honda carried the nameplate into the 2009 model year, where it remained part of the company’s sport ATV range. Available evidence from Honda’s 2008 owner’s manual and 2009 model lineup shows a short, continuous production run spanning those two model years only. After that brief period, the nameplate disappeared from Honda’s U.S. ATV offerings and was not carried forward into subsequent model years.

Because of that limited production window, this machine is remembered as something of a niche performance quad: uncommon, relatively short-lived, and notable for combining modern fuel injection and independent rear suspension with a large single-cylinder engine in a dedicated sport package. Its place in Honda history is less about long-term evolution and more about being a distinctive one-generation answer to the high-displacement sport ATV market of the late 2000s.
