The Story of the CTX700

Honda introduced the CTX700 for the 2014 model year as part of its CTX “Comfort Technology Experience” lineup, positioning it as an approachable cruiser/touring motorcycle built around comfort, low-speed ease, and relaxed ergonomics. The nameplate arrived alongside the CTX700N, with the CTX700 representing the semi-faired version of the series. Honda’s own launch material described the model as one of the first CTX motorcycles and tied it to the brand’s emphasis on low center of gravity, feet-forward riding posture, and smooth, easygoing road manners. The line was notable for using Honda’s parallel-twin platform and, in many markets, for pairing it with Honda’s Dual Clutch Transmission, which became one of the CTX family’s defining features.

In Honda’s product history, the CTX700 was a short-lived but distinctive chapter aimed at riders who wanted a practical, comfortable motorcycle with a cruiser silhouette and less intimidating delivery than many traditional middleweight cruisers. The model was sold in multiple markets and received regular model-year updates during its run, including U.S. versions that remained in the lineup through 2018. Honda later listed the CTX700 among its discontinued motorcycle models, marking the end of the nameplate after the 2018 model year. The CTX700 is remembered as part of Honda’s broader early push to normalize DCT-equipped motorcycles and as a more comfort-oriented alternative to conventional middleweight road bikes.
