MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the CRF80F

This off-road trail model was introduced by Honda in the United States for the 2004 model year as the intermediate step in the brand’s family of small recreational dirt bikes. It was positioned between the smaller entry-level machines and the larger beginner-friendly trail models, giving growing riders a more capable size without moving into Honda’s competition-focused motocross range. Honda later brought the same model to Japan for 2008, where it was sold as a 2009 model. The bike shared the straightforward, approachable character of Honda’s other family off-road machines, using a modest four-stroke single-cylinder layout, a manual five-speed transmission, and suspension and chassis dimensions chosen to make it manageable for newer riders. In Honda’s CRF lineup, it filled the role of a practical step-up machine for kids and beginners who had outgrown the smallest play bikes but still wanted something friendly, durable, and easy to handle. The nameplate fits within Honda’s long-running shift from the older XR family to the CRF designation for four-stroke off-road motorcycles.
