MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the VRXSE

This Harley-Davidson drag-racing special was introduced for the 2006 model year as the factory’s purpose-built, race-only V-Rod-based Destroyer. It was not a street cruiser adapted for competition; it was conceived from the start as a turnkey drag bike sold through the dealer network for sanctioned racing use. Harley-Davidson’s own 2006 service literature and dealer support bulletins identify it as a distinct 2006 model, and the company treated it as a separate racing-focused machine within the VRSC family.

The model’s significance comes from how far it pushed Harley-Davidson’s V-Rod concept. The original V-Rod line had already marked a major departure from traditional Harley engineering, and the Destroyer took that idea much further by turning the Revolution-powered platform into a factory dragster. It became closely associated with Harley-Davidson’s performance and competition efforts, and it helped establish the V-Rod as more than just a power cruiser nameplate.

Although later Harley-Davidson performance and racing programs drew on the same V-Rod theme, this exact Destroyer nameplate is tied to the 2006 factory drag-bike release. It is remembered today as one of the most extreme production Harley-Davidsons ever offered and as an enthusiast collectible rooted in drag-racing culture rather than everyday road use.
