This Harley-Davidson touring nameplate first appeared for the 2011 model year as a fully equipped, frame-faired long-distance motorcycle aimed at riders who wanted the wind protection and road-going character of the Road Glide formula with added passenger and luggage comfort. It quickly became the most travel-focused version of the line, pairing the model’s distinctive fixed fairing with the brand’s larger touring amenities and a strong emphasis on two-up distance riding. The nameplate was part of Harley-Davidson’s early-2010s Touring family, but it did not remain in continuous production through the middle of the decade. After the 2013 model year it disappeared from the standard lineup, then returned for 2016 with a revised Project RUSHMORE-era design and updated touring features. Because of that break in production, the nameplate has two separate production periods rather than one uninterrupted run. It has since remained one of the brand’s core long-haul bagger offerings, positioned as the more wind-cheating, fixed-fairing counterpart to the company’s batwing-faired tourers.
