This Touring model debuted for the 1998 model year as Harley-Davidson’s frame-mounted-fairing long-distance bagger, giving the company a more wind-splitting alternative to the traditional fork-mounted touring setup. The design traced its family line to the earlier Tour Glide concept, but the Road Glide established its own identity with a fixed fairing, integrated touring equipment, and a more purposeful highway-focused stance. The FLTRI designation identified the fuel-injected version of that motorcycle during the first production run. Over time, the model became known for combining classic Harley-Davidson Big Twin touring character with a more stable steering feel and a distinctive silhouette that stood apart from the rest of the lineup. This exact FLTRI-era run remained in production through the 2006 model year, after which Harley-Davidson reorganized the Touring model codes for 2007.
