MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the SuperLow

This low-seat Sportster variant arrived for the 2011 model year as a fresh, entry-level cruiser aimed at riders who wanted an especially approachable Harley-Davidson. It replaced the earlier 883 Low concept with a revised chassis, new ergonomics, and a stronger emphasis on confidence at parking-lot speeds and in everyday riding. Rather than being a styling exercise, it was conceived as a practical small-displacement cruiser that preserved the classic Sportster look while making the platform easier to live with for newer riders and for experienced riders who preferred a shorter, more manageable stance.

The introduction marked an important moment in the long-running Sportster line, because it showed how Harley-Davidson could update one of its most traditional families without abandoning the familiar air-cooled, Evolution-powered character that had defined the range for years. The model’s identity centered on accessibility: low seat height, relaxed control layout, and a balanced, user-friendly road manner that helped distinguish it from taller, more aggressive Sportster siblings.

It remained part of the Sportster lineup through the 2020 model year. When Harley-Davidson restructured its Sportster offerings for 2021, this particular nameplate was no longer carried forward, making 2020 its final model year in that continuous run. Enthusiasts often remember it as one of the clearest examples of Harley-Davidson’s attempt to make a traditional big-twin-style ownership experience more approachable within the smaller Sportster family.
