This Softail-era Fat Boy variant represents the later evolution of Harley-Davidson’s original Fat Boy lineage, a model first introduced in 1990 and long associated with the brand’s broad-shouldered chrome-heavy cruiser image. The 103-badged version appeared when the Fat Boy adopted Harley-Davidson’s Twin Cam 103B powertrain, giving the nameplate a clearer link to the larger-displacement engine used across several Softail models in the early 2010s. It retained the classic Fat Boy formula: a low-slung stance, wide solid-disc wheels, heavy visual mass, and the unmistakable “steamroller” look that made the model an icon among custom-styled factory cruisers. This 103-era configuration continued through the final years of the traditional Softail platform and was replaced when Harley-Davidson redesigned the Fat Boy for 2018 on the all-new Softail chassis with Milwaukee-Eight engines, ending the Twin Cam 103 version rather than creating a separate revival.
