The Story of the CVO V-Rod

This factory-customized performance cruiser first appeared for the 2005 model year as a limited-production, premium take on the liquid-cooled V-Rod platform. It was built during the early years of the brand’s Custom Vehicle Operations program, which aimed to deliver more exclusive paint, trim, and hardware than the standard lineup. The model was continued for 2006, making its run a short, two-year chapter rather than a long-lived series.

Its significance lies in how it extended the V-Rod idea into a more dramatic, upscale package at a time when the platform itself was still relatively new and unconventional for the company. The V-Rod family was already notable for departing from traditional air-cooled cruiser formulas, and the CVO version added a stronger visual identity and more premium presentation aimed at riders who wanted something rarer and more striking straight from the factory.

Because it was a limited-edition CVO model, it is generally remembered as one of the early examples of the brand using its custom shop to sharpen the personality of the V-Rod line. Its brief production span and distinctive place in the muscle-cruiser era have made it a notable collectible among enthusiasts.
