This heavy-duty Ford nameplate was part of the company’s L-Series vocational and highway truck family, a line of medium- and heavy-duty conventionals built for demanding commercial work. The LT designation identified the highway-oriented tandem-axle conventional within that family, positioned for line-haul and severe-service duty rather than light commercial use. It appears in Ford’s late-1970s heavy-truck literature and remained in the catalog through the 1990s, reflecting a long, continuous run rather than a short-lived specialty variant. Over time, the LT became a familiar sight in dump, tanker, towing, and other vocational roles, and it was one of the better-known Ford heavy trucks of its era. Ford’s heavy-truck naming evolved in the late 1990s as the Louisville/Aeromax family replaced the older L-Series badging, bringing the LT’s production run to an end after the 1997 model year.
