MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the AT8513

This heavy-duty Aeromax 8500-series model was introduced for the 1996 model year as part of Ford’s updated Louisville/Aeromax truck family. It used the AeroMax aerodynamic cab architecture and represented the tandem-axle version of the 113-inch BBC 8500-series truck, positioned for vocational and over-the-road work where a set-back front axle and heavier chassis capacity were useful. The Aeromax name itself had already been established earlier on Ford’s aerodynamic heavy trucks, and the 8500-series continuation carried that styling and market identity into the final years of Ford’s stand-alone heavy-truck business. Production ran through the 1998 model year, after which Ford’s North American heavy-truck operations were sold and the line was phased out under the new ownership arrangement. Within Ford heavy-truck history, it is remembered as one of the last generation of Louisville/Aeromax conventionals before the transition away from Ford-branded heavy trucks.
