This model belongs to Ford’s Louisville 9500 heavy-duty conventional line, part of the company’s all-new Louisville truck family introduced for the 1996 model year. It was Ford’s first clean-sheet Class 7/8 conventional in more than 25 years, aimed at vocational and linehaul buyers who needed a heavier-duty highway truck than Ford’s medium-duty offerings. The Louisville 9500 was positioned above the smaller Louisville variants and was offered with a broad range of diesel powertrains and heavy-duty chassis configurations, reflecting its role as Ford’s premium over-the-road and severe-service conventional. Ford continued building the Louisville heavy-truck line through the 1998 model year, after which the heavy-truck business and related tooling were transferred away from Ford.
