This medium-duty cabover entered Ford’s North American commercial-truck lineup for the 1986 model year as part of the Cargo family, introduced as a modern tilt-cab alternative to the long-running C-Series cabover. It was aimed at vocational buyers who needed a compact footprint with a large, forward-tilting cab for easier service access, making it a familiar sight in municipal, towing, delivery, and specialty-truck duty. Early production for the U.S. market was sourced from Brazil, then shifted to Kentucky in 1991 as Ford consolidated North American assembly. Through the 1990s it remained one of Ford’s standard heavy-commercial offerings in the 7000-class range, with continuous updates to engines, chassis ratings, and vocational equipment rather than major redesigns. The nameplate stayed in production until Ford exited the heavy-truck business after the 1997 model year, when the line was sold off and rebranded under successor makes.
