MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the F-600

This medium-duty truck nameplate traces its roots to the 1953 second-generation F-Series refresh, when Ford revised its truck naming and moved the old F-6 designation into the F-600 slot. In its original run, it served as one of the brand’s work-focused medium-duty offerings, positioned above the lighter pickups and aimed at commercial buyers who needed a heavier chassis for hauling, towing, and upfit duty. Over the following decades it became a familiar badge on vocational trucks, including cab-and-chassis and other special-purpose applications.

The nameplate later disappeared from the U.S. lineup during the transition away from the old medium-duty F-Series. After a long absence, it was revived for the modern Super Duty chassis-cab family, returning as a 2021 model-year truck and continuing in current production. The modern version is part of the Super Duty commercial lineup rather than a pickup, and it carries the same basic mission as the original: a rugged, upfit-friendly truck built for demanding fleet and vocational use. Because the nameplate was discontinued and later brought back, it has multiple distinct production periods rather than one uninterrupted run.
