Taurus X

This nameplate was used on Ford’s three-row crossover for the 2008 and 2009 model years. It was not a long-running standalone line so much as a renaming and update of the earlier Freestyle: for 2008, the vehicle received revised styling, a new powertrain, and added safety and convenience content, then continued essentially unchanged into 2009. Positioned as a family-oriented crossover rather than a traditional SUV, it offered car-like packaging with a tall wagon profile, available all-wheel drive, and seating for up to seven passengers. The name itself was part of Ford’s broader effort to bring the Taurus badge back into the U.S. lineup after the original sedan had been retired, using a familiar and well-known name to give the vehicle more market recognition. The run was brief, though, and the nameplate was discontinued after the 2009 model year when Ford shifted attention to newer crossover offerings. As a result, this remains a short-lived but notable chapter in Ford’s crossover history, remembered mainly as the final evolution of the Freestyle rather than a separate long-term family of vehicles.
