MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the '34

Ford’s 1934 full-size V-8 line was the follow-up to the 1933 redesign and kept the basic Model 40 formula in production for one model year. It arrived as an affordable, mass-market V-8 offering at a time when that engine layout was still a major selling point, and it was offered in the familiar range of body styles that defined Ford passenger cars of the period. The 1934 cars are especially important in Ford history because they sit at the center of the company’s early flathead V-8 era, when Ford was refining the styling and hardware that made its prewar cars so influential. Among enthusiasts, 1934 Fords became enduring favorites for custom work, drag racing, and hot-rodding, helped by their clean proportions and their place in the early V-8 performance tradition. Production was limited to the 1934 model year before Ford moved on to the 1935 redesign.
