This South Korean mid-size sedan was introduced for the 1997 model year as part of a new generation of more ambitious Daewoo products aimed at the domestic market and export sales. Styled by Italdesign, it represented a step up in size and market positioning from the brand’s earlier mainstream family cars, with a more upscale, conventional three-box body and a focus on comfort and refinement. In Korea it was sold through the end of the 2002 model year, giving it a single continuous production run of roughly six years.
The car is closely associated with the V100 internal code used on many market references and parts listings, and it became one of the better-known Daewoo sedans of the late 1990s. It arrived at a time when the company was trying to build a more mature image and compete more directly with established mid-size sedans from Japanese and European rivals. After the original run ended in 2002, it was succeeded by a larger, more modern replacement rather than being revived under the same nameplate, so there was no separate later production period.
