LeBaron

This nameplate began in the early 1930s on Chrysler’s luxury cars, when LeBaron-bodied Imperials helped define the brand’s upper end with formal coachbuilt styling. Chrysler later revived the LeBaron name for the Imperial LeBaron in the 1950s, using it as the top trim on Imperial through 1975. After Imperial was dropped, Chrysler brought LeBaron back in 1977 on a new mid-size model line, first as a rear-wheel-drive sedan, coupe, and wagon, then as a front-wheel-drive family of cars and convertibles through the 1980s and 1990s. The name also appeared on several distinct body styles and market roles over time, from luxury showpiece to mainstream personal luxury car. Chrysler’s history emphasizes the LeBaron convertible as a standout revival, noting its long run and its role in reintroducing open-top style to the brand. The final Chrysler LeBaron models were built in the mid-1990s, ending a nameplate history that spanned multiple separated eras.
