BMW introduced the C 650 GT in 2011 as part of its first move into urban mobility and the maxi-scooter segment, alongside the related C 600 Sport. The GT was positioned as the comfort-oriented, touring-focused version of the new scooter family, aimed at riders who wanted weather protection, a relaxed seating position, and long-distance practicality in a premium BMW package. Market launch began in 2012, making it the first model year for the nameplate.
The C 650 GT established BMW Motorrad’s approach to the scooter class by blending motorcycle-like road manners with everyday convenience. It was built in Berlin and quickly became the brand’s flagship scooter for riders who valued comfort over a sportier feel. BMW refreshed the model in 2015 for the 2016 model year, giving it revised styling and technical updates while keeping the same basic role in the lineup. That update kept the GT aligned with BMW’s broader design language and reinforced its place as a premium grand-touring scooter rather than a commuter-only machine.
Through the following years, BMW continued to offer the C 650 GT in annual model-year updates, including 2020 and 2021 revisions in official BMW Motorrad pricing and model-line materials. The model’s run ended after the 2021 model year, with BMW’s later urban-mobility lineup shifting toward the smaller C 400 series and electric CE models. As a result, the C 650 GT is remembered as BMW’s original large-format touring scooter: a distinctive, comfort-led machine that helped define the brand’s modern scooter era.
