The Story of the C 650

BMW’s C 650 nameplate belongs to the brand’s premium maxi-scooter line introduced in 2012, when BMW Motorrad launched the C 600 Sport and C 650 GT as its first large urban-mobility scooters. The original pair established a new chapter for BMW Motorrad, aimed at riders who wanted scooter convenience with the road manners and equipment level associated with the brand’s motorcycles. The GT was positioned as the more touring-oriented version, while the Sport carried the sharper, more compact styling. In a mid-cycle update, BMW refreshed the line and renamed the Sport model C 650 Sport, aligning the family more closely under the C 650 banner. The scooters were updated again in later model years with changes to styling, equipment and colors, while remaining the flagship combustion-powered scooters in BMW’s urban-mobility range. BMW continued listing the C 650 Sport and C 650 GT through the 2021 model year, after which the line was phased out as BMW’s scooter strategy shifted toward smaller-displacement models and the electric CE 04. The C 650 is notable as BMW’s first serious entry into the premium maxi-scooter class and remains an important part of the company’s modern two-wheeled history.
