The Bentley Eight was introduced for the 1984 model year as a more accessible entry point into Bentley ownership during the brand’s modern revival. It belonged to Bentley’s SZ-era saloon family and was positioned below the more traditional, higher-trim Mulsanne variants. Mechanically and conceptually, it reflected the same fundamental Bentley formula of the period: a large luxury four-door with the brand’s familiar V8-based grand-touring character, but presented in a simpler, less ornate package than its stablemates.
The Eight was notable for helping broaden Bentley’s appeal in the 1980s, when the marque was working to re-establish its identity apart from Rolls-Royce. Compared with the more expensive Mulsanne and Turbo R models, it emphasized understated presence and value within the hand-built luxury saloon range. Production continued through the early 1990s, and the Eight was discontinued in 1992. It was then succeeded by the Bentley Brooklands, which carried forward the same general luxury-saloon lineage.
