The Story of the SQ6

Audi’s SQ6 nameplate belongs to the Q6 e-tron family and was introduced in 2024 as the performance-oriented S variant of Audi’s all-electric mid-size SUV range. It arrived alongside the new PPE-based Q6 e-tron lineup, with Audi positioning the SQ6 as the sportier, more dynamic counterpart to the standard Q6 models rather than as a separate standalone line. The first production form was the SQ6 SUV e-tron, followed shortly by the SQ6 Sportback e-tron, which added a more coupe-like roofline to the same electric architecture.

Historically, the SQ6 is significant because it marks one of Audi’s first high-performance electric SUVs to wear the company’s S-badged designation. That makes it part of Audi’s transition from its established combustion-era S models into a new generation of performance EVs. The SQ6 was launched as part of the broader Q6 e-tron series, which became an important milestone for Audi’s electric portfolio and for the brand’s use of the Premium Platform Electric.

In enthusiast terms, the SQ6 sits between the regular Q6 e-tron models and the higher-output RS models that Audi has traditionally reserved for the top end of a performance range. It is aimed at buyers who want the appearance and feel of an S model in a fully electric package, with emphasis on chassis tuning, design details, and everyday usability rather than extreme track-focused positioning. Because the SQ6 nameplate is still current, there is no final model year to record yet.
