MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the S7

The Audi S7 is the performance version of the A7 Sportback, Audi’s four-door fastback that helped define the brand’s modern grand touring formula. It first appeared in the early 2010s as part of the original A7 family, giving the elegant liftback body a more driver-focused character while staying more restrained in appearance than the RS model above it. From the start, the S7 was positioned as a balance of luxury, everyday usability, and high-speed long-distance capability, aimed at buyers who wanted an executive car with genuine sporting intent.

The nameplate continued into the second-generation A7 era, where Audi kept the S7 in the same role within the lineup: more powerful and more dynamic than the standard A7, but less extreme than the RS 7. Across its life, the S7 has reflected Audi’s broader S-model philosophy of subtle styling, strong road manners, and all-wheel-drive confidence rather than overt visual aggression. In some markets and later model years, Audi has also offered region-specific powertrain variations, including diesel versions, but the underlying identity of the S7 has remained consistent.

As a nameplate, the S7 is significant because it turned the A7’s distinctive coupe-like body into a true performance grand tourer and became one of the clearest examples of Audi’s approach to understated luxury performance.
