MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the A7 e

Audi’s A7 e nameplate corresponds to the A7 Sportback plug-in hybrid, marketed as the A7 Sportback TFSI e in most official Audi materials. It arrived near the end of the second-generation A7’s life cycle, with Audi opening orders in 2019 and stating that market introduction would begin in the third quarter of that year, which makes 2020 the first model year for this exact electrified A7 variant. The model combined the A7 Sportback’s fastback body style and grand-touring positioning with Audi’s plug-in hybrid technology, giving the A7 line a more efficiency-focused flagship option alongside the regular petrol and diesel versions. The A7 Sportback TFSI e remained part of the A7 family through the model’s final years, but Audi later marked the A7 series, including the TFSI e version, as a previous model ending in 2025. It is best understood as a distinct plug-in hybrid chapter within the A7 Sportback story rather than a separate long-running standalone model. There is no evidence of a discontinued-and-revived production gap, so this nameplate is treated as a single continuous run from its introduction through its end in 2025.
