The Story of the Rapide

Aston Martin’s Rapide brought the marque’s signature grand touring style to a four-door body for the first time in the modern era. The concept was shown in 2006, and the production car followed as a dramatic, low-slung fastback aimed at combining Aston Martin elegance with genuine everyday usability. It was positioned as the company’s first production four-door car, and it became one of the defining models of Aston Martin’s VH-era lineup.

The original Rapide ran from the 2010 model year through 2013. It used the same basic idea throughout that period: a luxurious yet performance-focused four-seat GT with rear-hinged practicality replaced by a more formal sedan-like silhouette, but with the proportions and character of a sports car. In Aston Martin’s own heritage lineup, Rapide is listed as a 2010–2013 model, confirming its finite production run.

After the initial Rapide, Aston Martin expanded the concept with later related derivatives such as Rapide S and the limited Rapide AMR, but those were separate nameplates or special versions rather than a revival of the original Rapide name. As a result, the Rapide stands on its own as Aston Martin’s first modern four-door and one of the most distinctive luxury sports sedans of its era.
