DBX is Aston Martin’s first SUV and marked a major expansion of the brand beyond its long-running sports car and grand touring lineup. The nameplate was revealed in late 2019 after an extended development programme, and Aston Martin described it as the opening of a new chapter for the company. Although the vehicle was unveiled in 2019 and deliveries began in 2020, the model is commonly identified in official Aston Martin inventory as a 2021 DBX, which makes 2021 the first model year for the production nameplate.
From the start, DBX was positioned as a luxury performance SUV rather than a softened utility model, combining the practical body style buyers expected in the segment with Aston Martin’s emphasis on design, craftsmanship, and dynamic character. Production was established in Wales at St Athan, underscoring the car’s importance to the brand’s modern manufacturing strategy.
The DBX nameplate later expanded into higher-performance derivatives, including the DBX707 and the DBX S, which continued the original SUV concept while pushing the model further toward Aston Martin’s sports car ethos. DBX has become one of the most significant cars in modern Aston Martin history because it brought the marque into the luxury SUV market without abandoning its core identity.
